An Open Letter to John Chow

If any of you are not familiar with John Chow, let me tell you that he runs one of the leading blogs in the world. John makes over $30,000 a month showing people how to make money online. His blog receives hundreds of thousands of visitors per month.
I recently e-mailed him begging asking him for help in getting word out to a large audience about my dream.
My 15 minutes of fame came when I looked up and saw this on the mybloglog widget on the right:
He showed up.
I’m not sure what he thought of my plans, or whether or not he thought he could help, and I also know that he’s been extremely busy with the Blog World Expo, but he’s also got a big heart, so I thought I’d compose him a letter. After all, I’ve got nothing to lose, and quite possibly a lot to gain.
Ahem.
Dear John:
You are a badass. You know this, I know this, and much of the world knows this. I’m running a fundraiser so that I can change my life. I’m raising the money so that I can ride across part of the U.S., a trip I believe will get me off the path I’m on and back to school.
I think it’s a great opportunity for me to show the world that persistence in the face of difficulty can and will win. I want to win. I will persist until I win. I think it would be amazing if you would be a part of this win. You sharing this bike tour and fundraiser with your audience would help it tremendously.
I need all the help I can get.
I need your help John.
I think that if someone has a plan, has a dream, and has the drive to accomplish that dream, then they will get that dream. Will you help me with my dream?
John, if you see this, please consider helping me make a difference in the world. Your help stands a good chance of being a major factor in its success. You can help me win this.
Dereck

Hey, I’m on there, right next to John! This must be my 15 minutes of fame, too!
In all honesty, I really admire how you’re going about this, Dereck! You are being bold. My other favorite Derek, Derek Sivers says “extreme results require extreme actions.”
Keep going! You’ll get there.
ari
@ Ari – You like that? I was going to crop the picture, but wanted to leave all my friends in it. Let’s see if Steve or Robert notice too
Stumbled. Good luck.
So…
I had to come over here, what with Robin Easton’s post and your joining my forum.
I do hope you succeed and I’d be thrilled if action on Our Evolution’s forum helps you!
~ Alex from Our Evolution
Hi Dereck – all the best with your project – I hope you achieve what you set out to!
Cheers – Robin
Dereck, that is very cool. When I get home and free of this internet-blocking shackles, I will sign up for StumbleUpon and Stumble you.
Dereck, I agree with Ari. IT IS BOLD. Huzzah!!
Dereck, I sent John Chow an email. I also asked a friend of mine to feature you on her blog–no word yet on that.
It’s done and willingly!!!
Send me the names of your local TV/Radio. I’ll Google them. I have a message I want to send them. Actually put them in your next post and we can ALL send then a message; it would be neat to see you interviewed. Think about that mission statement I told you about and have it ready for news people.
@ Writer Dad – thanks!
@ Alexander – Thanks you too! I should be over there soon.
@ Robin – I really appreciate it. By the way – I love your blog title.
@ Matthew – StumbleUpon is way cool. The coolest thing. Ever.
@ Hayden – Indeed. I hope he is able to help out.
@ Beth – Thanks for shooting him something and for recommending a story to your friend.
@ Robin – I’ll add those to the e-mail I’m writing you already. Thanks a million.
@Dereck: I was shooting around your favorites today, nothing super-cool…but I enjoyed the randomness of it. I did manage to find a cool Lara Croft/Stormtrooper girl.
Dereck – you’ve got Balls…
@ Matthew – Very nice.
@ Boycery – Well, it’s been a couple of days now, and I haven’t heard or seen anything from him, so I don’t think he’s able to help me (or outright doesn’t want to). But, as I said in the article, I had nothing to lose.
I really like the guy, so while thinking of creative ways to spread word about the event, thought I’d at least give it a shot.
